Hummingbird Day at the UCSC Arboretum

Saturday, March 16, 2002 10 am - 4 pm

Events for children and bird lovers of all ages will be included throughout the day. Santa Cruz bird expert David Suddjian will conduct a program in the Horticulture Building starting at 10 am. Plants that attract hummingbirds will also be featured and will be for sale.

Don't miss the Marine Illustration Workshop at Long Marine Labs, November 3 - 4. The workshop is taught by Jenny Keller of the UCSC Science Illustration Program.

The Celebrate Santa Cruz Festival needs your artwork! Submissions for the first annual Poster Contest will be accepted September 1 - December 15. Artists who work within the painting, drawing, and printmaking mediums are invited to enter their designs. For more information, call the Santa Cruz Downtown Association at 831-429-8433.

The Arboretum trip was a lot of fun! We are already planning the next trip for mid-September, so check back for updates to this site. We saw a lot of butterflies, and some butterflies-to-be:

Next Meeting:
Sunday, August 26 at the UCSC Arboretum.

We'll meet at the steps by the Horticulture Bldg at 10:00, and then again at 1:30 to view each other's work, for those willing to share. Bring a lunch if you like - there is a picnic table right outside the Hort. Bldg.

What to bring:
ANY WEATHER - Portable chair, sketch book/pad, various paper types and
supplies that match what you want to do (pencil, colored pencil, watercolor,
etc.)

SUNNY - hat, sunscreen, colored paper for drawing (Canson in neutral shades
is recommended - less glare than white paper)

OVERCAST/RAINY - whatever you think...
